About ANZDATA

For almost 50 years, the Australia and New Zealand Dialysis and Transplant (ANZDATA) Registry has been a cornerstone of kidney care improvement across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. Established in 1977, it records dialysis and transplant outcomes for all patients treated for end-stage kidney failure, creating the world’s longest continuous dataset of its kind.

Based at the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI), ANZDATA is internationally recognised as a leading clinical quality registry. It supports benchmarking and quality improvement, world-class research, and informs evidence-based clinical practice and policy.

ANZDATA’s impact and influence is made possible by the strength of its collaborations and partnerships. The Registry would not exist without the dedication of clinical staff contributing data, the funders who make operations possible, and the staff and researchers who collect, analyse, interpret, and use the data for better patient outcomes.

About the Anniversary

The ANZDATA 50th Anniversary event is a landmark opportunity to recognise what has been achieved through five decades of shared commitment to improving kidney care.

It is a celebration of collective impact, reflecting the people and partnerships that sustain the Registry: renal units contributing data, clinicians and researchers translating evidence into practice, consumers advocating for better systems, and partners supporting long-term progress.

Fifty years of continuous data has delivered both measurable and immeasurable impact. More than 6,000 published articles mention ANZDATA, seminal papers have been cited over 1,000 times, and ANZDATA has been referenced in the peer-reviewed literature since 1979.

Registry-based clinical trials have changed practice and ANZDATA researchers have won countless awards for clinical excellence.
